Peter Life and Struggles in America

At first peter was very excited to move to America because he had a vision were it was heaven and not knowing the difficulty’s that he would be facing. Peter was disappointed that he had to leave some of his friends and family behind in the refugee camp in Kenya. When he was on the plane on his way to Huston Texas, he was terrified because he was so high in the sky he was also confused about the food they received on the plane because they didn’t know how to eat it, they didn’t know what it was. For example when one of the lost boys opened the butter and he just liked it off because he didn’t know what it was and how to eat it. When they arrived they were all exhilarated because they were driving in a car that they have not or might not have ever been in before. When they got to their apartment they were told how to use the house hold appliances like the stove. The Lost Boys were told that they would have their rent paid for them for 4 months and also some extra spending money. Peter couldn’t find a job while others were working in factories and supermarkets as trolley pushers. Since Peter could not find a job so he decided to move to Kansas and there he went to finish high school so that he could get a decent job. He did this because he wanted to provide for his friends and family in Kenya that were struggling. He struggled with time management where he had to play basketball in the early morning, then go to school, and then go home to do homework that takes him along time. He also struggled with sending money to his people in Kenya that he wanted to help and take care of. He gained friends fairly easily but people saw him a gangster and a robber because of his skin color, and because of how he dressed. That’s how Peter was treated with inequality and stereotypes. Peter dealt with these problems but changing how he dressed just so that he could fit in. left his friends behind so that he could get a job and go to school. He made friends by going to a Christian retreat because he wants to stay connected to his culture and religion just as he makes friends.
